So, once we've established how many calories your body needs to maintain your current weight, we can then work out how many you need to lose weight.

You need a weekly calorie deficit of 3500 calories to lose 1 pound of fat.

For example, if your body needs 2300 to maintain your current weight, you will need to consume 500 calores less per day than that figure. Therefore you would lose 1 pound per week if you consumed 1800 calories per day.

To lose 2 lbs per week you would need to create a deficit of up to 1000 calories per day. However, it is not advised to consume below 1200 calories per day as you will be lacking in vital nutrients, and could create other health problems.
